Hardy<\/a>\u00a0&amp;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11557-020-01656-7#auth-Treena_I-Burgess\">Treena I Burgess<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/journal\/11557\"><i>Mycological Progress<\/i><\/a> <b><span class=\"u-visually-hidden\">volume<\/span>\u00a020<\/b>,\u00a0<span class=\"u-visually-hidden\">pages <\/span>111\u2013129 (2021)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong>: Five new taxa from\u00a0<em>Phytophthora<\/em>\u00a0ITS clade 2a are described from\u00a0<em>Cinnamomum cassia<\/em>\u00a0plantations and adjacent waterways in Van Yen, Vietnam, disturbed rainforest in the Hela Province of Papua New Guinea and from disturbed forest on Christmas Island. Phylogenetic analyses were performed using data from nuclear regions (ITS, \u03b2-tubulin; heat shock protein 90) and mitochondrial regions (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1; cytochrome c oxidase subunit\u00a02; NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1; ribosomal protein L10). The molecular data supported recognition of three species:\u00a0<em>Phytophthora insulinativitatica<\/em>,\u00a0<em>P. multibullata<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0x\u00a0<em>vanyenensis,<\/em>\u00a0and two informal taxa:\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0sp. germisporangia and\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0sp. awatangi.\u00a0<em>P. x vanyenensis<\/em>\u00a0appears to be a hybrid between\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0<em>mekongensis<\/em>\u00a0and an unknown species.\u00a0<em>P. multibullata<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>P<\/em>. sp. germisporangia are phylogenetically close to\u00a0<em>P. citrophthora<\/em>, but morphologically distinct.\u00a0<em>P. insulinativitatica<\/em>\u00a0is most closely related to\u00a0<em>P. botryosa,<\/em>\u00a0but has distinct\u00a0morphology.\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0sp. germisporangia and\u00a0<em>P.<\/em>\u00a0sp. awatangi were morphologically distinct and separated in the phylogeny based on mitochondrial sequences, but their nuclear sequences were identical. When comparing the sequences of these new species to that available on GenBank, it became evident that some of these species shared similarity with isolates submitted to GenBank under other species names. A\u00a0re-evaluation of all\u00a0<em>P. meadii<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>P. colocasiae<\/em>\u00a0ITS sequence data identified an additional 7 putatively new species all isolated from Asia.
