ABSTRACT

Dipterocarpus alatus and Hopea odorata are large, fast-growing, straight-stemmed species with beautiful foliage, widely distributed in the Southeast Vietnam and very popular planting for Urban Green Space. However, according to the surveys of the Forest Protection Research Centre and Forest Science Institute of South Vietnam undertaken in 4 years (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) on some roads in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces, both species were heavily impacted by Tasar silkworm (Antheraea frithi). The Tasar silkworm cause heavy damage 5 to 20 – year-old trees scattered on some roads, with damage incidence (P%) from 82.2 to 97.0% and severe damage (R = 2.12 – 2.86). The Tasar silkworm is a harmful insect to these two tree species. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to study the biological, ecology characteristics and control measures to have effective management solutions.
